As a member of the Cruise Terminal Environmental Advisory Committee (CTEAC), created in 2003 by the Port of San Francisco, we helped review environmental initiatives and recommend feasible measures and practices to address air and water quality concerns associated with construction of the new cruise terminal at piers 30-32. For more information, visit the Port of San Francisco's CTEAC web site. The collaborative process was extremely successful and resulted in several agreements and accomplishments, including the establishment of a Green Award presented to environmentally friendly cruise ships visiting San Francisco, and agreement on the importance of shoreside power.  However, the plans for constructing a new cruise terminal at Piers 30-32 were changed. In January 2007, the Port formed a Cruise Terminal Advisory Panel, a blue ribbon panel whose purpose is to review whether, where and how a new cruise terminal project should be implemented, and to develop a recommendations to the Port Commission.
