PLAYING WITH DILDOS

QUESTION
About to begin an extended stay overseas in a non-gay friendly country, I decided that my best option was to purchase a dildo. Whenever I use it, though, there always seems to be a little blood. Today, there was more than usual. This toy is larger than anyone that I have ever been with, and I usually top more than I bottom. Should I be concerned about the blood?

ANSWER
Remember, a proper diagnosis can only be done in person by a medical professional. Blood on stool, on toys, on a finger after anal penetration can be a normal result of a hemorrhoid, uncommon manifestation of an anal wart or result of a new anal tear or fissure among other anal or rectal conditions. Regular bleeding requires prompt medical attention.

Here are some suggestions and tips for playing safely with sex toys.

When playing with toys, use lots of lube and move more slowly with the toy, especially if you aren't used to having your butt played with. Also, consider buying a smaller size dildo. And remember, that even thought it’s a toy, it’s important to clean the dildo after each use. Use any brand of liquid antibacterial soap and hot water. If your toy is made of silicone you can boil it. But if it's any other material, soap and water will do.

Depending on what country you’re going to, you may run into problems at customs. You might want to do some research before going to the airport.

To your health,
Dr. K
