RISK FOR BLOW JOB RECEIVER

QUESTION
I would say I'm bisexual. Recently, I've had a guy experience where a man sucked me off. I understand the risk for the person giving the blow job, but how much risk is there to the receiver of contracting an STD?

ANSWER
Recent research has shown that only in rare circumstances is HIV transmitted via oral sex, with the risk being lowest for the person getting sucked. All the reported cases of oral transmission have been in the people doing the sucking, not getting sucked. However, there are many other STDs which can be transmitted by getting sucked. In particular, if the man you played with has an STD, you could fall prey to chlamydia, gonorrhea, NGU, herpes or syphilis. The good news is that all of these STDs (except herpes) are curable with modern medicine. With regular STD checkups every three months if you're sexually active with more than one partner (throat and butt cultures and urine and blood tests), you can stay clean and healthy while enjoying your sexual play. For more information about the STD risks from particular sexual activities, see our chart.

To your health,
Dr. K
