MOSQUITO BITES

QUESTION
Can HIV be transmitted by mosquitoes from a positive person to a negative person? If not, then can any other STD be transferred in this manner?

ANSWER
No. Insects cannot spread HIV or any other STD (sexually transmitted disease) from one person to another. That is an old myth that we hear from time to time. If an insect bites an HIV positive person, the virus does not go from the insect’s stomach to the saliva glands or mouth.

To your health,
Dr. K
