HIV TESTING & SERVICES

Confidential HIV Testing
Confidential HIV counseling and testing is offered to people who are considered to be in high-risk groups. These include people diagnosed with gonorrhea and syphilis; gay, bisexual and transgender men; and injection drug users. People that meet Family Pact eligibility requirements and enroll in the program can also be tested for HIV at City Clinic. Prior to having your blood drawn, you will have to undergo STD/HIV risk assessment counseling with a City Clinic health worker or clinician.

After having your blood drawn, you will be assigned a confidential HIV testing number, which will be attached to your return appointment card. HIV test result appointments are available within 10 working days. At this appointment, a certified counselor will give you your test results and you will be offered HIV disclosure counseling.

HIV Early Care
City Clinic offers expert HIV care and nutritional counseling with specially-trained clinicians. In addition, experienced social workers are available to help with a wide variety of practical needs including housing, benefits, etc.

  • Thursdays 8am - 11am, by appointment only. Call 415-487-5526.

HIV Partner Counseling and Referral Services (PCRS)
This is a voluntary program for people who test positive for HIV, to help locate and notify past or current sex partners regarding their possible exposure to HIV. Counselors are available during the following hours:

  • Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 8:00am - 4:00pm
  • Tuesday 1:00pm - 6:00pm

Call 415-554-9085 for 24-hour confidential information and to leave a message for a counselor in order to schedule an appointment for these services.

Post-Exposure Prevention (PEP)
PEP is a 28-day cycle of drug treatment believed to be effective in preventing an HIV negative person from becoming positive after exposure to HIV. At City Clinic, we offer testing, counseling and prescription for PEP medication within 72 hours of a possible exposure to HIV. You can call (415) 487-5538 to discuss your situation with a clinician before coming to the clinic for services. Once you arrive at the clinic, you will meet with a clinician to discuss available medications, be provided counseling with a trained Health Worker, have blood drawn for HIV and STD tests, and receive a schedule for follow-up appointments at 1 month, 3 months and 6 months.

Clinic walk-in hours for PEP services are:

  • Monday, Wednesday, Friday 8:00am - 4:00pm
  • Tuesday 1:00pm - 5:00pm
  • Thursday 1:00pm - 3:00pm

For more information concerning post-exposure prevention, click to UCSF's HIVINsite.org and search for PEP.
